Excitement builds for the new BMW 2 Series Coupe

As the new BMW 2 Series Coupe enters the final phase of development, taking to the race track for dynamic tuning of its drive and suspension systems before entering production later this summer, the manufacturer has revealed new details about the compact sports car that are sure to excite.

While leaving much of the Coupe’s aesthetics to the imagination for now, BMW has offered a glimpse of the performance-centred mechanics cloaked beneath the camouflage. Pandering to drivers searching for an emotional, unrelenting experience behind the wheel, the 2 Series is set to exceed expectations with a powerfully sporty dynamic.

The New BMW 2 Series Coupe

The 2 Series’s torsionally stiff body and chassis will offer an agile response to road maneuvers under the powerful thrust of the in-line 6-cylinder engine and a nearly 50/50 axle load distribution. Self-steering behaviour is optimized and fine-tuned on the Coupe when building up lateral acceleration forces, while power transmission to the rear wheels makes for a sporty and responsive cornering confidence.

Improved handling and comfort additionally come as a result of the 2 Series’ increased front and rear axle width, with standard stroke-dependent dampers fine-tuned to complement the Coupe’s sporty tendencies. Variable Sports Steering will also be available on all models for optimized precision when steering into corners with reduced steering effort in urban environments or when parking.

While much remains to be revealed of the full 2 Series lineup, BMW has dropped details pertaining to the top BMW M model variant. The model’s in-line 6-cylinder engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology offers an output of 374 hp, delivered through an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. All-road and inclement weather handling is assured through the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system with a rear-wheel oriented design, offering peace of mind in any driving situation.

Development of the new BMW 2 Series Coupe is entering its final stage. Production should begin this summer.
