How powerful is the 2023 BMW X3

Not only does the 2023 BMW X3 arrive with a lively xDrive30i 2.0-litre turbocharged engine– drivers have two additional powertrain options to maximize the personality of BMW’s high-quality SUV.

The standard 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine under the hood is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission, rated for 248 hp and 259 lb-ft of torque, sending power to all four wheels for a launch time of 0-100 km/h in 6.3 seconds.

The addition of a mild-hybrid powertrain is a prominent feature of the X3 lineup. Drivers searching for the improved fuel economy of a hybrid system can opt for the xDrive30e, which features a 48-volt electric motor, adding an additional 11 hp to the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

On the high end of performance, the X3 M40i sports a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine for an output of 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque with the same 48-volt mild-hybrid architecture. The M40i can reach speeds of 100km/h in under five seconds for drivers looking for a rise in their heart rate.

Building on the professional stature of the X3 lineage, the exterior facade of the 2023 model has received an updated treatment in the form of slimmer headlights, seemingly three-dimensional tail lights, a larger grille and front bumpers sporting a sleek triangular and diagonal design.


Within the interior, driver controls have been noticeably resituated with touchpoint materials upscaled, along with the addition of the standard 10.25-inch touchscreen on the centre console. Drivers will immediately notice a more sophisticated atmosphere within the cabin, further highlighted by the ambiance control settings.

BMW introduces enhanced quality of life features

Rounding out the list, the 2023 X3’s extended cargo space provides families with all the storage required for long scenic road trips, with 812 litres of storage space and up to 1,775 litres with the rear seats folded down.

BMW’s new cloud-based navigation system, displayed on the 10.25 infotainment touchscreen further adds to the vehicle’s overall driving experience, while an expanded suite of advanced driving assistance systems provides peace of mind between destinations.
