The 2022 BMW M5 CS has arrived in the North American market as the quickest and most powerful production vehicle created by BMW. How’s that for a splash?
While the 2022 M5 CS contains many similarities to other current BMW M5 models, BMW’s attention to the performance changes makes the M5 CS stand out in the series. It’s powered by the same twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8, producing the equivalent 553 lb-ft of torque. But while the similar M5 Competition outputs 617 horsepower, the M5 CS is tuned to deliver 627 horsepower, claiming the title for the quickest production model of all time.
All that power is delivered to the four wheels by an eight-speed automatic transmission and BMW’s all-wheel-drive system. The result is an astonishing sprint time of 0-100 km/h in 3.0 seconds, 0.3 seconds faster than the M5 Competition.
This tuning of power is complemented by the M5 CS’s rigid carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) treatment. On top of the body being lower and stiffer, the M5 CS is around 155 lbs lighter than the M5 Competition with a new top speed of 306 km/h in the car’s new Track Mode setting.
Some aesthetic changes have been included among the performance tuning. The 2022 M5 CS features a new roof, front splitter, mirror caps, rear diffuser, rear spoiler and reworked hoods and vents, all crafted from the performance-inspiring CRFP. Unique 20-inch golden wheels with optional gold brake callipers complete the look.
