Imbued with 50 years of BMW M GmbH heritage and the signature qualities which define the “Competition, Sport, Lightweight,” designation, the limited edition BMW M4 CSL is a modern day legend in the world of high-performance sports cars.
With a limited release of just 1,000 units, 41 of which have arrived in Canada, the BMW M4 CSL is an uncompromising product of motorsport heritage that unequivocally defines the progression of character, technology and considerable performance of M-Series vehicles over the past five decades of BMW M GmbH.
In short order, the M4 CSL became the fastest series-production BMW in history, earning an unprecedented lap time of 7:20.2 on the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife circuit. This feat came in no small part thanks to the model’s M TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder inline engine, offering up a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 3.7 seconds at 543 hp.
Further credit for the top-performing M4’s merit is owed to the significant weight reduction across the vehicle thanks to increased usage of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) and lightweight, model-specific alternatives across the M4’s body, chassis and interior components.
Everything from the standard lightweight M Carbon ceramic brakes, ultra-lightweight sound insulation and even the carbon fibre materials used for the hood and trunk lid contribute to a 100 kg reduction in weight from the BMW M4 Competition Coupé.
The intuitive usage of CFRP across the CSL is defined within the prominent, yet minimal BMW kidney grille, featuring exposed carbon fibre elements, accented in deep red lines which appear across the model’s exterior.
In both appearance and driving experience, the BMW M4 CSL is designed to dominate the track with dynamic handling, agility and precision. The CSL features a model-specific suspension and a drop in ride height of 7.6 mm from the M4 Competition, significantly lowering the centre of gravity. This, along with the lightweight M precision strut helps to stabilize the vehicle, no matter the road.
Additionally, ten varying stages of the M Traction Control system add an increased level of control and driver input, specifically configured for heart-racing track use. Stages one to five mirror the performance of the M4 Competition, allowing for controlled drifts at speed. Stages six to 10 offer increased surface contact in dry conditions, delivering record-shattering lap times, even in inclement road conditions.
